Will France soon be affected by the end of account sharing?

From when Share Netflix account no longer be possible in France? The measure is already applied by the platform stream in several Latin American countries (Chile, Costa Rica and Peru) and in recent months in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain. In a letter addressed to shareholders, forwarded by Digital this Wednesday, Netflix said he was “satisfied with the results” in countries where the measure has already been implemented and announced a “wide deployment, including in the United States, in the second quarter” of 2023.

Specifically, users from the affected countries must state their main place of residence, where the platform is mainly used. On the go, they can view content, but only for a limited time. Those who previously used a relative’s subscription will be asked to create a new account and can transfer their profile so as not to lose their list of series, films and likes.

If the user wants to share their account with another person, they have to pay a surcharge, which differs per country. For example, in Canada, the option costs €7.99 per month.

This extension, planned for the end of June, could affect many users. The platform estimates that account sharing affects 100 million households. It remains to be seen if France will be one of the next countries affected or if the French can benefit from a few months of calm.
