Very difficult outing for the Blue Jays

After celebrating Thursday’s first win of the season, the Toronto Blue Jays had a much tougher time at Busch Stadium against the St. Louis Cardinals, who lost 4-1 on Saturday.

The only Canadian team in major baseball kicked off the 2023 season with a 10-9 win over the Cards. If the Jays players’ sticks resounded that day, this time they were silenced.

Toronto only managed three goals from the safe, two of which came from Kevin Kiermaier. The Cardinals’ runless, shotless game even extended into the seventh inning when starter Jack Flaherty (1-0) gave the Blue Jays seven walks while beating four men in five rotations.

The visitors’ only run came not from a hit but from an error in the eighth inning by Jordan Hicks. The relief completely threw off the target, allowing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to cross the slab.

Nolan Gorman, as the designated hitter, led the St. Louis team offensively by driving in two runs. His at-bat single in the third round scored Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.

Jays marksman Kevin Gausman had a rollercoaster game with eight hits and three carries allowed in six innings. Despite this, he overtook seven competitors in the mitten.

The three-game streak between the two clubs ends on Sunday afternoon.
