Cultivate a just and egalitarian world! : This is the invitation of this year’s 32e Edition of the Dictée PGL, whose ambassador is Aly Ndiaye, aka Webster, hip-hop artist and history buff.
“How to promote access to quality, egalitarian, equitable and inclusive education? asks the speaker of the event. How can you and we, committed citizens, raise awareness of inequalities and their privileges? In fact, this wonderful celebration of the French language in the world also carries humanistic messages about the challenges related to access to education, especially for women and young girls, as well as for marginalized people.
values and identity
“Each year, the dictate includes three parameters: the promotion of language, the protection of our environment, and sharing and solidarity,” explains François Gérin-Lajoie, who succeeds his father as President of the Paul Gérin Foundation.-Joy . These cross-cutting issues are so many common threads that have fed the text of dictations over the past thirty-one years.
There is also an annual theme – telephony, diversity or the car – in order to do justice to the interests of the pupils from kindergarten to secondary school. 5th grade students onlye and 6e Year can go further in competition. The dictation is linked to the Picking of Sharing, a fundraiser attended by parents, half of which goes to the school and half to the PGL Foundation.
However, dictation is also a preparation in the classroom with pedagogical tools suitable for students of all levels.
The tests take place at the school under the supervision of the teachers, “volunteers who don’t count their hours to supervise this event that arouses a lot of enthusiasm”, emphasizes François Gérin-Lajoie.
An inclusive dictation
Inclusion, the Dictée PGL also demonstrates this by addressing two categories of students: French-speaking students and students in French immersion classes. The latter only have to complete one of two paragraphs during the elimination tests that take place throughout the month of March.
The grand international finale will bring together a few hundred finalists in UQAM’s Bernard Landry room in May. Approximately 50,000 Quebec students attend the regional levels, with an additional 15,000 from the rest of Canada.
Participation is particularly well attended in French-speaking Africa, with 260,000 students in Senegal alone. Unfortunately, some selected young people cannot reach the final because they do not have a visa issued by their country. “All in all, the Dictée PGL reaches more than 300,000 people throughout the French-speaking world,” sums up enthusiastically François Gérin-Lajoie, who and his team have already worked on major projects for the 60the Anniversary of the Ministry of Education, partner of the Dictée PGL since its beginnings.
Since last year, the foundation has also been organizing the Dictée PGL de la Francophonie for employees of the company, many of whom were former participants in the school version and are now active employees (the final will take place on March 22nd at the HEC Montreal). . A way to defend and promote the French language at work.
