Here’s why it’s positive for the Habs

Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis and his squad would have liked to have added a few more days to February as the team has had its best month of the season.

The Habs finished Tuesday with a 3-1 win over the San Jose Sharks with a 6-3-0 record, better than their October performance (5-4-0); He played for .500 in November and fell below respectability for the next two months. Even if the rumor mill is buzzing around a few days before the transaction deadline and injuries continue to plague the entire club, CH has been convincing since leaving before rejoining on February 11th.

Aside from two painful losses to the Carolina Hurricanes and the Toronto Maple Leafs, powerhouses of the National Hockey League (NHL), the St. Louis men have always been in the game. As the next clashes get tougher, they can give each other encouragement with their recent victories. In the second month of the calendar year, the Montreal team remained in the top 10 in the NHL for point scoring average, scoring 3.56 goals per game and giving up 2.89 times.

The special teams also fared better as the power play averaged 22.7% of the time, which is the ninth best percentage in the league. Sainte-Flanelle missed a man and finished 13th average (83.3%).

All on the rise

Individually, Jake Allen has improved his numbers, posting a 14-18-2 record and an .897 save rate this season. He has won four of his last five decisions and has allowed three goals on 65 shots in his last two games.

Then new signing Denis Gurianov impressed some observers on his debut for the club. He was acquired by the Dallas Stars for Evgenii Dadonov on Sunday and had six shots in about 17 minutes against the Sharks. Both stats are personal highs in 2022-23.

Finally, defender Kaiden Guhle’s return was good for the blue line. Despite his young age, the 21-year-old works with the confidence of a veteran. He spent more than 18 minutes on the ice on Tuesday and took the opportunity to score his third goal of the season in the last third.

– The Bleu-Blanc-Rouge was entitled to a day off from training on Wednesday. He will visit the Los Angeles Kings on Thursday and the Anaheim Ducks the following day before completing his trip to the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday.
