King Charles III will be named Canada’s new head of state during an accession ceremony at Rideau Hall on Saturday morning.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will witness the historic moment alongside Governor General Mary Simon at Rideau Hall, the monarch’s official residence in Ottawa, on Saturday morning.
Justin Trudeau and members of the federal cabinet and privy council will meet before the ceremony as part of protocol to officially proclaim the new sovereign.
dr Samy Khalid, Chief Herald of Canada, will read the proclamation of the new sovereign’s accession.
The date of the national memorial service for Queen Elizabeth II is suspended pending public confirmation of the date of her state funeral in London.
However, Canadians can sign the book of condolence in person at the Rideau Hall residence from 9am to 7pm.
“Those wishing to lay flowers in honor of Her Majesty are invited to lay them near the large fountain in front of the main entrance of Rideau Hall,” the Governor-General of Canada said on Twitter.
