Katherine Henderson becomes President and CEO of Hockey Canada

An accomplished and respected leader, she joins Hockey Canada after leading Curling Canada with flying colors

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Katherine Henderson as President and Chief Executive Officer following an extensive recruitment process led by a committee including key stakeholders and assisted by an outside director search firm give.

The Hockey Canada Board of Directors, chaired by the Honorable Hugh L. Fraser, has been tasked with setting a vision for the next phase of the transformation and growth of Canada’s official winter sport. One of his main tasks was to find and recruit a person to lead the organization in line with the board’s vision.

For seven years was MrMe Henderson was executive director of Curling Canada, where she led successful initiatives to welcome new Canadians to the sport, achieve equal pay for men’s and women’s curling teams, and turn around the organization’s business model. She is also elected co-chair of the Winter Sports Caucus (a coalition of Olympic and Paralympic winter sports in Canada).

“Katherine has the track record and experience to lead Hockey Canada’s ongoing transformation,” said the Honorable Hugh L. Fraser, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hockey Canada. “With her at the helm of the organization, we are confident that we will continue to take the steps necessary to ensure hockey is a safe and inclusive sport and that Hockey Canada benefits from exemplary governance.”

Before joining Curling Canada, MrMe Henderson was senior vice president of marketing and revenue for the organizing committee of the 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games in Toronto, where she helped set record attendance, ticket sales and television ratings. Previously, she held positions of increasing responsibility in marketing and branding at Whirlpool Corporation, Colgate Palmolive Canada, Campbell Soup Canada and General Mills Canada.

An important figure in the world of sports, MMe Henderson has held various positions that have allowed him to advance the sport as a whole. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Western University, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from York University’s Schulich School of Business, and a Master of Theological Studies from the University of Toronto.

In 2022, she received a diploma from the International Olympic Committee for her achievements in realizing gender equality in sport. For the curling community she also has “ Changing the Face of Curling, an international symposium in partnership with two universities and senior management at Curling Canada to advance efforts towards diversity, equity and inclusion.

MMe Henderson will take office on September 4 and will attend the Beyond the Tapes summit later this week. She will be based out of Toronto, Ontario.
