Adam Johnson is appointed music director of Baton Rouge

Adam Johnsonwho was assistant conductor at the OSM from 2016 to 2018 and was conductor there in the 2018-2019 season, has just been appointed music director of the OSM Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Louisiana. He will take office next season.

“I had a wonderful experience with the Orchestra in January conducting an all French program and I look forward to continuing to serve the Orchestra and the city with music. The orchestra consists of 70 musicians and has a long tradition of excellence – thanks to the Pennington Great Performers Series, Hillary Hahn, Itzhak Perlman and many other world-renowned artists have been guest soloists. I can’t wait to return to the city for symphony week in August and kick off the season on September 14 with Wagner, Ravel and Rachmaninoff,” the conductor wrote on his Facebook page.

Three festivals start this week

The opening concert of Lanaudière Festival takes place this Friday 7th July, sold out. To launch this 2023 edition, Rafael Payare will guide themMontreal Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Also on the program of this first weekend: the pianist’s debut in Quebec Denis Kozhukhin in Rachmaninoff’s Concerto No. 2, Saturday with the OSMand the accordionist Richard Galliano will be at the Fernand-Lindsay Amphitheater with the Molinari Quartet And Eric Lagace Sunday.

Orford music

In Orford, the official start of the 2023 festival will take place accompanied by the royal violinscellist Stephane Tetreault and the pianist Henry of, winner of the 2022 edition of the Orford Music Prize. The music is accompanied by excerpts from the novel Don Quixoteinterpreted by the actor Norman Chouinard. DETAILS

St Eustache Opera Festival

It is also the beginning, this Thursday, July 6th St Eustache Opera Festival. It all starts with Mozart’s RequiemHawkesbury Chamber Orchestra Led by Marc Trautmanin cooperation with the Champlain Chamber Choir (Musical direction: Rosemary Harden). July 6, 8 p.m., Church of St-Eustache. DETAILS

Katherine Levac will host the OM concert at Mont Royal

He is the famous comedian Katherine Levac which this year will host the very popular Orchester Métropolitain concert at the foot of Mount Royal. The concert is free and takes place August 2nd At 8 p.mis led by Yannick Nezet-Seguin. The main works on the program are Dvořák’s Symphony No. 7 and the Romantic Rhapsody for piano and orchestra with Alain Lefèvre at the piano.

A robot conducts a concert in South Korea

The EveR 6 robot conducted the National Orchestra of Korea in a sold-out performance at the National Theater of Korea in Seoul on June 30th.

The legless machine was designed by the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology. It has two arms with joints at the wrists and elbows. It has been programmed to mimic the movements of a real conductor.

This is undoubtedly a technical feat. However, it will not be the day after tomorrow until a robot will really be able to convey the emotions of the music and a vision of the works to the musicians.

Classic trip: Volunteers wanted

The Montreal Symphony Orchestra is looking for volunteers for his Classic Spree, which will take place from August 16th to 20th this year. Among the volunteer benefits mentioned, it is mentioned that it is an opportunity to contribute to a unique cultural event in Canada, attend a concert for free during the 2023–2024 OSM season, and be invited to a wine reception in Canada in the company of OSM musicians and staff.
