482 violations during a hazmat and material explosion

Canadian traffic controllers recorded 482 violations during a surprise operation against vehicles carrying dangerous goods and materials that took place June 12-16.

L’Alliance for Commercial Vehicle Safety (ASVC) says that in those five days, 1,449 vehicles and 1,673 packages of dangerous goods were inspected and 163 out-of-service violations were found.

In the United States, 6,123 vehicles and 6,722 packages containing hazardous materials were checked. Traffic controllers registered 2,096 violations, 538 of which resulted in a decommissioning order.

The top three violations in Canada are shipping document issues (165 violations), training certificate issues for the transport of dangerous goods (96), and major containment measure violations (78).

In the United States, the top three violations are shipping documents (462), non-bulk packaging (452), and bulk packaging (403).

Last year, inspectors found 1,774 violations. According to ASVC, 6,204 vehicles and 6,668 packages were checked.
