WASHINGTON — Five Habs prospects ended 2022 with appearances at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Switzerland 4 – Slovakia 3 (OT)
A total of 20 shootouts were needed to determine a winner. Before scoring in the penalty shootout, Filip Mesar orchestrated two goals for his team, spinning particularly in the neutral zone and sending Servac Petrovsky into the break with his second goal of the game.
The Habs’ hope ended the encounter with a record three shots and a +2 difference in 19min 15s of play.
United States 6 – Finland 2
Lane Hutson capped his side’s 6-2 win by smashing Finnish goalkeeper Aku Koskenvuo between the pads.
Drafted by the Canadians in the summer of 2022, the defenseman amassed a +3 differential in the 15 minutes and 24 seconds he played.
In the opponent’s zone, captain Oliver Kapanen had three shots to finish the game -1 in 18 minutes 19 seconds of play.
Canada 5 – Sweden 1
Joshua Roy scored the first of five goals for Canada in a win against Sweden. Viewpoint Habs led all Canadian forwards with 19:35 ice time. He also had four shots on target and a +3 difference.
Meanwhile, defender Adam Engstrom ended his night on the job with a 0-record, shooting twice at the opposition net in 17:52.
