Global Affairs Canada confirmed Sunday evening that 130 Canadians, permanent residents and their family members were able to leave the Gaza Strip over the weekend.
The Rafah border crossing in the southern Gaza Strip reopened to foreign nationals on Saturday. Since then, 130 Canadians and their family members have been able to cross to Egypt, where they can stay for three days and organize the rest of their trip.
In total, 600 Canadian citizens have been able to flee the Gaza Strip since the beginning of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
“Canada continues to work with all affected parties to ensure that Canadian citizens, permanent residents and their eligible family members currently in the Gaza Strip can quickly and safely leave the country,” Global Affairs Canada wrote in a press release.
After a seven-day ceasefire Fighting resumed in the besieged Gaza Strip on Friday. On Sunday, Israel carried out new attacks in particular against the major city of Khan Younes in the south.
