Xavier Dolan is now considered one of the most promising young directors in cinema. Despite this success, the filmmaker decided to put an end to it. In fact, the director from Canada made this news official in an interview with Spanish daily newspaper El Mundo.
Xavier Dolan withdraws from the world of the seventh art
At the peak of his 34 years, Xavier Dolan has officially retired from cinema.
The young director caused a surprise on the internet with his sensational revelations. He reaffirmed his decision to leave cinema and resign from his position as director. In an interview with El Mundo newspaper, the filmmaker revealed that the decision was his own Constant disappointments with flagship productions failing to attract public attention.
He laments the lack of coverage of his works
After working behind the camera for a while, Xavier Nolan succeeded with several films like “Imaginary Love”, “Laurence Anyways”, “Mommy” and “Tom in the Barn” among others.
He also won important awards at the Cannes Film Festival and the Césars. His most recent project is the series The Night Logan Woke Up, after which he worked on an HBO series. He pledged his support to directors and artists although he is retiring. He insists he’s fine with squashing rumors that he’s depressed and that while directing made him happy at the time, that’s no longer the case. He stressed, “I no longer have the desire or the energy.” On the other hand, the director considered putting his career on hold due to the stress these projects are bringing in November. From now on, the Quebecer to whom we owe “Only the End of the World” has fallen: “My current state of mind and the state of the world do not compel me to continue what I have believed to be an unshakable calling“.
