Followers of X (formerly Twitter) saw a window asking them to accept new terms of service and privacy policies when logging into their accounts on Thursday. However, the content of this update is causing a stir.
Notable additions include the collection of Metadata associated with encrypted messages
using data fromAI and the storage of biometric information (facial scan) of the platform’s users.
This last part is reserved for people who have subscribed to the paid service X Premium, formerly called Twitter Blue. People can choose to present a government-issued ID card with a headshot, adding a layer to verify their identity on the social network.
According to the British broadcaster BBC – who spoke to a spokesperson for the social network – the goal is to help X combat identity theft attempts and make the platform more secure

However, this data could potentially be used for training purposes.AIif we trust X’s new policy, which gives itself the right use the collected information and publicly available information to support training [ses] Machine learning or artificial intelligence models

X also reserves the right to terminate an individual’s account if they have been inactive for a prolonged period of time or subject the Platform to legal proceedings or commercial unviability
. The previous policy, which allowed Twitter to suspend anyone’s account, was less specific in this regard.

These X policy updates will come into effect on September 29, according to the platform.
Elon Musk, who has owned the social network since October 2022, has the ambition to create a general-purpose application similar to WeChat. Fans of the platform should therefore expect many more important policy updates.
