In a game against Norway, the 20-year-old central defender deflected a shot from the point past the Norwegian goalkeeper, ensuring a 0-0 draw in the first period. In addition, Kapanen was the initiator of the play that led to his goal by winning a crucial faceoff in the opponent’s zone.
Kapanen did it again in the second period, scoring an easy goal into a cage left open by goalie Jonas Arntzen.
These were his fourth and fifth goals of the tournament in three games, putting him first in the tournament standings so far. Finland ultimately won 4-1, securing their second win in a row.
Kapanen was selected by the Habs in the second round of the 2021 draft.
