However, Sainte-Flanelle’s two representatives were left off the scorers list.
It was Milos Kelemen who turned the game around in extra time. The 24-year-old striker deflected a point shot past goalkeeper Trey Augustine.
The latter was sent into the game in the second period after Alex Nedeljkovic allowed four goals on 16 shots. Augustine faced a total of nine shots.
Kelemen was also the first to score in this duel. Other scorers for Slovakia were Libor Hudacek, Simon Nemec and Patrik Koch.
In the American camp, Matt Boldy, Shane Pinto, Brady Tkachuk and Luke Hughes managed to beat Samuel Hlavaj. The winning goalkeeper saved 39 of the 43 pucks sent his way.
Slovakia will return to action on Wednesday against Poland. The USA returns to the ice on Thursday to face France.
