Will Evgenii Dadonov’s collapse end?

Despite becoming an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, Montreal Canadiens forward Evgenii Dadonov will attract little attention at the National Hockey League (NHL) trade deadline by maintaining his slow pace.

Acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights during the off-season, the veteran is fighting on all fronts.

He will be paid a salary of $5 million in 2022-2023 and also has a contract that includes a partial non-trade clause. And if the Habs are to convince a rival organization to get their hands on the 33-year-old skater, they’ll need to make a solid argument, because Dadonov doesn’t deliver the goods.

In 17 games, he had just one goal and one assist while maintaining a -8 difference. Such production equates to just over 10 points in an 82-game roster.

Barring an unexpected turnaround, the former Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthers will not match their 43-point aggregate from last year. Despite this, the 33-year-old scored 70 points at Sunrise in 2018-19.

In his last five clashes, his game time has fluctuated between around 13 and 15 minutes.

Having scored his only goal on November 15, he has recently played alongside Brendan Gallagher and Christian Dvorak but points are slow to come.

The Habs will host the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday before playing their next four games in the west.
