Rose and Dan Matzner are the owners of a cabin in Dillon Lake, located 550 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. Her property was completely destroyed last week.
Dan Matzner, whose main house is locatedmeadow lakeHe claims he was close to tears when he received the news.
It is a place where people went to pick berries and medicinal plants. We went there to hunt and take our grandchildren. We lost everything
he says.
The same fire that destroyed that cabin still threatens Dillon, the main community of the Dene Nation Buffalo River this week.
That outbreak has spread to 9,690 acres southeast of Dillon as of Saturday morning, according to the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA).
Earlier this week 150 people from the Dene Nation Buffalo River were evacuated. People with chronic illnesses or young people were transported to Lloydminster.
According to the Chief of the Dene Nation Buffalo RiverAccording to Norma Catarat, about 600 people are still close to the scene of the fire and are ready to be evacuated if necessary
She adds that there are two buses waiting in the community buffaloin case more people have to be evacuated.
Temperatures of 35C are expected on Sunday and again there is great concern as once the heat is there there is great potential for the fire to intensify.
She says.
Fresh air shelters have been set up at Dene Nation Community Hall Buffalo Riveras well as in the arena and gymnasium to help those with breathing difficulties.
Specialized mental health teams are also on site to provide care.
Norma Catarat says she is concerned about the impact this situation will have on community members.
It’s a great loss to the community. Everyone feels it
