Wi-Fi service on board aircraft | Bell works with Air Canada

(Montreal) Bell is partnering with Air Canada to offer free messaging on aircraft equipped with Wi-Fi service to all Aeroplan members worldwide, the two companies announced Wednesday.




The telecoms giant will sponsor in-flight Wi-Fi services across the airline’s fleet, including Air Canada Rouge and Air Canada Express aircraft, starting May 15.

The partnership will allow passengers to send and receive messages through applications such as Apple’s iMessage, Meta’s WhatsApp and Messenger, Rakuten’s Viber and Google’s Messages, which work over Wi-Fi, allowing travelers to use any compatible device regardless of one be able to connect to your mobile operator.

The service will also be available to frequent flyer members of strategic partner airlines, including United Airlines’ MileagePlus, Lufthansa Group’s Miles & More and Emirates’ Skywards, when their account numbers are linked to a flight booking.

On select flights, Bell is also offering free mobile SIM cards to international travelers arriving in Canada, which they can connect to as soon as they step off the plane.

The companies added that the agreement offers additional benefits for Aeroplan customers. These include offering new promotional rewards and expanding Air Canada’s live television service to flights to the US later in the summer.
