The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in Kelowna announces that a plane that departed from Kamloops, British Columbia and was bound for Calgary, Alberta made an emergency landing at Kelowna International Airport on Thursday.
sergeant Michael DellaPaolera says that the RCMP and the fire brigade stood by the airport’s emergency services. He adds that the plane landed safely and operations at Kelowna Airport have returned to normal.
The air Line WestJet confirms in turn that his flight 3252 is departing Kamloops landed in Calgary with 75 passengers on board Kelowna due to a mechanical problem. The company says it will reroute all passengers onto the next available flight.
Megan Norton, one of the passengers, says she was sitting by a window not far from the plane that stopped working. She says as soon as the vehicle started making noise and smoke, she texted her mother and filmed what was happening.
After Megan Norton, the flight attendants told the passengers that everything was under control and asked them to buckle up. The pilot then claimed that the engine had failed, but the plane was able to land safely in Kelowna.
A mechanical problem
Philip Elchitz, Operations Manager at Kelowna Airport, confirms it was a mechanical problem that began shortly after takeoff. One of the machines didn’t work. At around 3:40 p.m. we were informed of a mechanical problem on a scheduled flight.
” We have continued our emergency response and I am pleased to say that the flight arrived safely and all passengers disembarked safely. »
Philip Elchitz clarifies that the plane was not on fire when it landed, but that it is being examined to understand what happened.
