OTTAWA, September 8, 2023 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The Canadian Red Cross is proud to announce that Walmart Canada’s annual fundraiser raised more than four million dollars this year. This amount includes a $1 million contribution from Walmart Canada, plus $3 million from customers and partners.
These generous donations will be used to support relief and emergency programs across the country, which have particularly helped communities affected by the unprecedented wildfires that struck the Atlantic provinces of Quebec, British Columbia and the Northwest Territories this year.
Communities across Canada continue to face extreme weather events such as floods, wildfires and tornadoes. These events are becoming increasingly common and serious and the Red Cross is committed to supporting Canadians before, during and after an emergency or disaster.
“The Canadian Red Cross is extremely grateful for Walmart Canada’s continued support, as well as the generosity of its customers and employees,” said Janet Johnson, director of strategic development at the Canadian Red Cross. The continued success of this annual campaign is remarkable. In fact, more than $70 million has been raised in the last twenty years.
