Victories won by the system

Two wins in a row in preseason games is something we haven’t seen at the Bell Centre in a long time, so imagine there being some losses beyond that.

The Canadian achieved this by defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-0 on Monday and the New Jersey Devils 3-0 on Tuesday.

“The preseason games have been tough the last few years, so getting two wins in a row is a good start,” agreed Owen Beck.

Owen Beck gives himself a good rating –

The 20-year-old center couldn’t have put it better, as the Canadian won more preseason games at home in two days than he had in the previous two years. In 2022, the team had lost all of its exhibition games, including five in Montreal. And last year, they had only one win in four home games before the start of the season.

patience

Martin St-Louis has seen enough hockey in his life to realize that it wasn’t a particularly exciting game. It’s fairly normal when you spend more than a third of the game on special teams.

“We didn’t shoot ourselves in the foot too much. We didn’t create many good chances, but we remained patient. It’s a good call for us to go into the third half 1-0 up and finish the game and win.”

With the team playing 12 minutes, 51 seconds on the power play and 10 minutes, 31 seconds down a man, there was little room for five-on-five play, but St. Louis liked what it saw.

“According to our extended statistics, we missed four chances in five-on-five situations. We worked hard on that and I’m happy with that.”

system

If the team performs well on a numerically equal basis, it is because the system is already advanced in its implementation, as Samuel Montembeault confirms.

“Sometimes I’m almost happy to be a goalkeeper. So many details about the system come to mind quickly. We do long Meet And the boys are good, they didn’t give us much of a chance in the five-on-five game today.”

Samuel Montembeault liked what he saw from Logan Mailloux –

Montembeault made 11 saves in just over 31 minutes before handing over to Connor Hughes, who blocked 13 shots.

This is another sign of progress in the system used by the St. Louis men, as they allowed the Devils only 24 shots after allowing the Flyers just one more the day before.

Interest will increase

The first week of training camp is often a busy one. This is also true for CH, who will play two more games by Saturday evening. So how do you manage to get the work done in a week like this?

“At the beginning of camp, we focus on the young guys to see where they are and if they are ready,” St-Louis explains. As camp progresses, we focus more on the core of the team and on details like the power play.

“The veterans are not as excited about these first games as the young players, and the closer we get to the start of the season, the more interest there is.”
