Tyler Shandro’s disciplinary hearing before the Law Society of Alberta continues

The purpose of the hearing is to determine whether the attorney Tyler Shandro violated the Code of Conduct of the Law Society of Alberta while serving as Secretary of Health. According to the defense attorney, the complaints filed against the former politician are more political than legal in nature. In his view, therefore, the Law Society of Alberta has no jurisdiction to hear these complaints.

The chairman of the committee, Bud Melnykreplied that he would listen to Grant Stapon’s arguments at the end of the cross-examination.

According to the court documents, Mr. Shandro is accused of conduct engages in inappropriate behavior that damages the reputation of the profession and such behavior warrants sanction.

The second complaint follows a response from Tyler Shandro to a woman who emailed his wife that the couple had a conflict of interest. He is said to have subsequently threatened to contact the security service if she sent any more emails to his wife.

Finally, it is alleged that the former health minister used his position to obtain personal cell phone numbers and contacted two doctors outside of regular working hours.

Cross-examination will continue on Tuesday and the hearing is expected to begin Wednesday morning.
