Two contract signings that will help the Laval Rocket

The Montreal Canadiens announced Thursday morning that they have renewed the contracts of defenseman Nicolas Beaudin and forward Lucas Condotta, leaving only one file on the team’s management desk: that of Jesse Ylonen.

Beaudin agreed to a one-year, two-part pact, while Condotta agreed to a two-year, also two-part pact.

These are important steps for the Canadiens because, barring a big surprise at training camp, Beaudin and Condotta will both be signed to the Laval Rocket next season.

What role for Ylonen?

It will now be interesting to see which deal Ylönen will sign.

The 23-year-old – he turns 24 in October – Ylönen has yet to establish himself as an NHL regular. Last season he took part in 37 games for the big club, a career high.

The team’s second-round pick in 2018, however, maintained a solid offensive count in the American League, notching 32 points in 39 games last season.

The 2023-2024 season could be his last chance to prove to the Habs he has what it takes to become a regular in the best league in the world.
