Electrification is spreading into new segments and the Chevrolet booth at the Montreal Electric Vehicle Show will prove it.
The American brand presents the first electrified Corvette and the first fully electric truck in its history.
Corvette E-Ray: Electrons at the service of performance
The least we can say is that the Corvette C8 breaks down barriers. After being the first Corvette in history with a rear mid-engine (standard), in the E-Ray version it will also be the first to receive a hybrid engine and all-wheel drive, thanks to the 160 hp electric motor previously train. In combination with the V8, the set develops 655 hp. The performances are of course corresponding: 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) is reached in 2.5 seconds, while the quarter mile exercise takes only 10.5 seconds. Although less powerful and heavier than the Z06, it proves faster over the 400 meters thanks to superior traction.
But the electrics are not only used to increase performance. With a 1.9 kWh battery (housed in the center tunnel), the Corvette E-Ray can drive around 6 kilometers purely on electricity (without exceeding 70 km/h). “Stealth” mode allows you to leave your home without waking up the neighbors. It differs from the base Stingray with its widened tracks (derived from the Z06), its front fairing and specific wheels, and revised instrumentation. It will be available in Canada for the 2024 vintage for $128,798 (including freight and prep costs).
Silverado EV: Electrons at work
The new electric pickup from Chevrolet, when it bears the name Silverado, has nothing to do with the petrol version, but is based on the BT1 platform with Ultium battery technology (800 V and up to 350 kW) already seen on the GMC Hummer EV. . resilience).
Two undercarriages (each with one motor per axle) will be available. Installed in the WT version, the first develops 510 hp and 615 lb-ft of torque and allows loads of up to 1,200 lb in the pits and 8,000 lb when towed. The RST version has 660 hp and 780 lb-ft of torque, allowing you to tow up to 10,000 lb and load 1,300 lb. In both cases, Chevrolet estimates the range at 400 miles, and a quick charge would add about 100 miles in just 10 minutes. A high capacity (20,000 lb) tow package will be available at a later date.
Conveniently, the Silverado EV has a cargo space under the front hood and thanks to its Multi-Flex tailgate (in RST version), the cargo length in the box can range from 5ft 11in to 10ft 10in. Available technologies include Air Ride adaptive suspension, rear-wheel steering and Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving. The RST First Edition versions will arrive in the fall, while the WT versions are expected in the spring of 2024 (for $122,248 and $54,748 respectively, including $2,300 shipping). A Trail Boss version will arrive later.
These two new products will be on display at the 6th Montreal Electric Vehicle Show, taking place on April 21st, 22nd and 23rd at the Olympic Stadium. Visitors have access to more than 100 exhibitors, 50 models, 22 car brands and 55 vehicles on test drives. You can also attend numerous conferences.
