The announcement of the upcoming tribute to PK Subban, made by the CH this week, was met with mixed reactions from the team’s supporters.
If some people saw the need to host such an evening because of the huge impact the former No.76 had in Montreal, others were disappointed that the team hadn’t thought of honoring Andreï Markov first.
In the podcast the dosehowever, journalist Marc-André Perreault corrected this story.
“The Canadians intend to pay tribute to Markov,” he said. Yes, his time in Montreal ended in a fishtail. We would have liked him to hit the 1000 game milestone here.
“But he has done a lot for CH and we are told that the political context in Russia may not be ideal for Markov at the moment to move. It is sad. He’s also a coach there, so a trip to Montreal just wasn’t on his agenda these days.”

However, Perreault was reassuring about the future.
“Markov was very touched by the club’s initiative. If all goes well, his tribute will come in the medium term.”
