The tension surrounding the sale of the Ottawa Senators could end in the next few days.
The Ottawa Sun reported on Sunday that a tentative agreement with a new owner could be reached by next week.
According to the Ottawa Daily, there were still a number of factors to be resolved with this sale, including the eventual shareholder group’s desire to build a new amphitheater in downtown Ottawa.
The Senators’ owners, daughters of former owner Eugene Melnyk, could try to fulfill certain offers to form a larger consortium if none of the proposals meet their expectations.
There are currently four bids to acquire the team from the federal capital, including one valued at $1 billion.
Businessmen Steve Apostolopoulos, Michael Andlauer, Neko Sparks, and Jeffrey and Michael Kimel also lead a group seeking to acquire the senses.
Steve Apostolopoulos was among those who made a bid to buy the Washington Commanders in the NFL. However, he did not win the auction.
For his part, Michael Andlauer is a minority owner of the Montreal Canadiens.
The Ottawa Senators have officially been up for sale since November 2022.
