Two radiologists and one ophthalmologist are the three highest-paid doctors in the province.

Doctors make nearly $2 million

Similar to last year, Dr. J. Stewart MacMillan, a Miramichi radiologist, one of the highest paid doctors in the province. As of 2021, it fetched between $1,950,000 and $1,999,999.

The salary of Dr. Martin Finnegan, a radiologist University hospital Dumont in Moncton is also flirting with $2 million. Just like that of Dr. Julien Saad, ophthalmologist from Dieppe.

According to the Office of the Comptroller’s Annual Physician Compensation Report for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2022, a total of 35 physicians received more than $1 million from the province. Last year there were 30.

These figures are the unconfirmed payments from the provincial health insurance company to the doctors.

These amounts, given in the form of a range, represent gross income and do not take into account doctors’ expenses such as the salaries of their staff or the rent of their practice, the Ministry of Health says.

Millionaire doctors remain a minority

Physicians earning more than $1 million remain a minority, but their numbers continue to grow.
