Those who visit At the Confluence of Worlds can observe more than 250 artifacts and archival documents.

The Musée de la Gaspésie has received the Canadian Museums Association (CMA) Award of Excellence. It was the exhibition At the Confluence of Worlds that earned him this mention.

The CMA Award of Excellence is given to an exhibition that excels in both content and presentation. “Receiving an award like this means a lot for the credibility of the museum. We are proving that even a museum far from the major metropolitan areas can compete with what is being done across the country,” said the director general of the Musée de la Gaspésie, Martin Roussy.

The winning exhibition At the Confluence of Worlds presents the history of the Gaspésie over 380 million years. “With this exhibition we tried to decolonize history. We didn’t want to neglect or prejudice the Founding Peoples, so we talk about the French, the English, and the Mi’gmaq peoples just as much. We also wanted to restore the greatness of Gaspésie, which was considered a distant land and associated with misery,” explained Mr Roussy.

This recognition is all the more important for the museum as the winning project represented a new type of exhibition for the museum. “The exhibition marked a turning point in the way we work with new museum technologies. It’s very technological, but it’s very discreet and soft. There isn’t too much text either, so visitors who don’t feel like reading can still understand and history experts can be fed with information,” explained the general director of the Musée de la Gaspésie.

Even if this national palm adds a seal that the museum welcomes with open arms, according to Martin Roussy, this is not the only recognition that the organization of the house appreciates. “The real prize is when people come out here and are impressed and amazed by the exhibition. »
