The Matapédia at the heart of a pilot project on disaster risk

One of the important parts of the project is to carry out a review of the different risks existing in its area. She [des fonctionnaires du ministère de la Sécurité civile] We will test with ourselves how we can take stock of any problems that may arise in order to then implement this mechanism across the board MRCexplains Ghislain Paradis, Director of the Fire Brigade MRC from La Matapedia.

This inventory includes all risks related to civil security such as floods, forest fires or rail or road accidents, explains Mr. Paradis.

In order to get this job done, the MRC will set up a regional coordination committee. It is then up to Matapédia’s elected officials to assess what they can do to reduce the risk of claims.

It’s not the first time that MRC is asked by the Ministry of Civil Security to participate in such projects. This was the case with the regionalization of the fire brigades, emphasizes Mr. Paradis.

Matapédia was also the first Quebec territory to regionalize certain aspects of civil security, such as disaster relief and emergency communications.

The project, which started last month, is expected to end in March 2024. She [des fonctionnaires du ministère de la Sécurité civile] We will then confirm what we have done and how they can improve it.

The approach of MRC de La Matapédia will then be deployed as part of the provincial government’s revision of the Civil Protection Act.
