The Huskies are back in the Vanier Cup

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies have a chance to get their revenge in the Vanier Cup Finals after earning their ticket to Saturday’s prestigious game.

Head coach Scott Flory’s team lost the Vanier Cup game to the Western University Mustangs last year after beating the University of Montreal Carabins in the national semifinals.

That year, the Huskies defeated the X-Men at St. Francis Xavier University 36-19 to claim the Uteck Cup.

The Westliga representatives started the fourth quarter with a collection of 23 points. They initially benefited from a safety touchdown missed by their rivals to break a 13-13 tie.

Quarterback Mason Nyhus then found Daniel Wiebe at 41 yards for a key major. The defense also joined the effort late in the game. John Stroll had an interception and got the ball back into the end zone. Daniel Perry and Nyhus teamed up to put the match out of reach for the X-Men.

The St. Francis Xavier club attempted to become the first Maritime League team to earn a berth in Canada’s college football final game of the year since Saint Mary’s University Huskies in 2007.

The Saskatchewan club meets the Mitchell Cup winners in the Vanier Cup final. This will be used by Laval University Rouge et Or against the Mustangs later in the day.
