Even though he has done well in his few months with the Montreal Canadiens, goalkeeper Kasimir Kaskisuo has to look for a new job.
The 30-year-old athlete, a former member of the National Hockey League, joined the Laval Rocket in mid-December. He first had to prove himself through a professional tryout, then signed a regular contract two months after his arrival.

The Finn took some of the pressure off the young Jakub Dobes and enabled him to finish the season excellently. The position of assistant bouncer was also consolidated, as Strauss Mann had not performed this task until then.
“My main goal was to return to Montreal, but that’s the reality of hockey. You play in the minors, so you move from one team to another from year to year. My goal is to play in North America,” Kaskisuo said on his YouTube channel, which is very popular on social networks.
He said Monday that his agent had confirmed that “Montreal is going in a different direction.” He had a 7-4-0 record, a 2.90 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
“I told myself that my chances of keeping this position were 50-50,” he admitted. The season was great. I gave everything I had. I only played 13 games in the few months I was there.”
“If I had been shown these statistics before I started playing again, I would have been delighted,” added the goalkeeper. “I did my best and I’m happy with that. It wasn’t my decision, but it was good to get the call.”
His replacement has been found
The Canadian had somehow confirmed his split from Kaskisuo by announcing last week the hiring of Connor Hughes, an Ontario native who spent his entire professional career in Switzerland. It’s up to him to support Dobes.
“I saw that they had offered a contract to a goalkeeper in Europe to take on that role. Because he is from Europe, that deal may have been done two or three months ago and talks may have started long before that. “I probably couldn’t have changed anything,” he admitted.
Kaskisuo has extensive experience in the American League, even playing two games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Nashville Predators. He played in Sweden between 2021 and 2023.
