The federal government announces 1,500 new electric charging stations in Quebec

Secretary of Energy and Natural Resources Jonathan Wilkinson announced funding of nearly $30 million to install more than 1,500 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in Quebec.


Secretary Wilkinson was in Quebec on Wednesday to announce the installation of 1,578 charging stations across 18 projects.

Most of the pie goes to Hydro-Québec, which will receive 21.7 million for installing 1,194 charging stations, including 385 fast-charging stations.

“We are pleased to have the support of Natural Resources Canada in establishing public terminals in Quebec. Your contribution will help us achieve our charging station deployment goals and continue to offer a reliable and accessible network to all EV drivers,” said France Lampron, Head of Electric Circuit at Hydro-Québec.

Canadian National will receive $4.4 million to install 62 charging stations near its stations, including 12 in Quebec.

Les Pétroles RL, Bell Canada, the Syndicat des copropriétaires Lowney sur ville in Montreal, the Regional Council for the Environment and Sustainable Development of the Outaouais and Montreal-Trudeau International Airport are also receiving funding to install charging stations on their properties.

Funding for these organizations ranges from several hundred thousand dollars to just over a million dollars.

The $30 million in funding comes from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero-Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program.

Electric Mobility Canada President and CEO Daniel Breton welcomed the announcement and stressed that the country is on the right track.
