For the second time this season, the Arizona Coyotes clinched three straight wins with a 6-3 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. See the highlights of the encounter in the main text video.
The often-mocked new home of André Tourigny’s men, Mullet Arena, is a true fortress for the Arizona team. Despite seating 5,000, the atmosphere is mostly electric, leading the Coyotes to win 6-3-2 with Tuesday’s win at the State University of Arizona (ASU) Amphitheater.
One player seems to like Mullet Arena in particular, defender Jakob Chychrun. The Canadian-American guard has nine assists in seven home games this season, including three in a win over the Avalanche. Overall, that’s 16 points (3-13) in 17 games for Chychrun in the 2022-23 season, who nonetheless asked the desert organization to explore the possibility of a swap last season.
Aside from the No. 6, several players have had a good night on the home side, starting with Lawson Crouse (11th in 2015), who was picked earlier by the Panthers in the first round and who confused the defending champion’s defense to eventually defeat Alexandrar Georgiev defeated with a sharp backhand shot. It’s already a 14th goal for Crouse, who seems to have found his niche with the Coyotes. See its purpose below.

The Coyotes’ top scorer Clayton Keller had another good night’s work. His assist in Shayne Gostisbehere’s first goal of the game, plus an empty goal, meant he’s averaged a point per game since the start of the season (13 goals and 20 assists in 33 MJ).
Crouse’s previous pick in the 2015 draft, 10th overall, was Mikko Rantanen. Still sporting the colors of the team that targeted him seven years ago, Rantanen has made a stunning start to the season. He has scored in a third straight game and a fifth in his last six to take his tally to 24 goals and 19 assists in 33 games. The Finn achieves those feats despite the player injuries that have plagued the Colorado team since the start of the season. To that end, many think Rantanen could dig up the Hart trophy, which will be awarded to his team’s most valuable player if he qualifies for Jared Bednar’s squad’s Spring Ball.
In fact, qualifying the Avalanche in the playoffs won’t be a dead hand. At the time of writing, the latter were considered fourth ace in the Western Conference with 40 points overall. The Oilers (40) and Flames (39) are hot on their heels, not to mention the Canucks, who seem to have found their way back to victory and who could very well close the five-point gap between the two teams .
For the Coyotes, Tuesday night’s win brings their record to 12-16-5, good for 27th in the Bettman League. The two teams ahead of them overall are the Senators and the Canadiens with identical records of 15-16-3.
There were ten more National Hockey League games Tuesday night. Check out the highlights below.
