The clubhouse is laying off half of its staff

The company didn’t say how many, but in October Paul Davison, Clubhouse co-founder, claimed the company had about 100 employees in its ranks.

The Clubhouse app was a huge hit in 2020 with 2 million daily users.

At its launch, only a limited number of people – mostly Silicon Valley stars – had access to it, by invitation only. Then the social network was expanded to the general public in the summer of 2021.

His model, based on audio-only conversations, was considered innovative for a social network at the time, responding to a certain need to move away from screens at the height of the pandemic.

The success of this oral formula has led tech giants to copy it and sniff out the bargain. Facebook, Spotify, Reddit, and Twitter, among others, have added similar features to their apps, but without much success.

The application also had lapses in terms of confidentiality, but also in terms of content moderation, as voice was more difficult to restrict than written words.

The breathlessness of the health crisis also contributed to the waning of netizens’ interest in Clubhouse.
