The company hires fathers and mothers to promote integration into the community of 7,500 people.

We use the waiting times at immigration to pay them full time and give them French lessons in Manila. And the first day when they arrive they have working French to go to the supermarket in Chibougamau and chat with their colleagues.says Mr. Verreault.

While the parents continue French lessons in Quebec, the children integrate into the French elementary school in Chibougamau from the age of six or seven.

New residential area

Chantiers Chibougamau is also stepping up its efforts to help new workers find housing.

The crisis is so big that last year the company decided to create its own residential area. The first apartments will be accessible at the end of the year or early next year.

A total of about 30 houses are rented out to provide temporary housing for workers.
