In three years, the Montreal Canadiens will boast of having two of the best wingers in the Bettman Circuit.
At least that’s how it is believe experts interviewed by the National Hockey League website.
They participated in the following exercise: they predicted which wingers aged 23 and under will be cream of the crop in three years’ time. Cole Caufield and Juraj Slafkovsky are among the chosen few in this list of seven players.
The method was to award a player 10 points for a first position vote, 9 points for a second position vote, and so on. Caufield sits third on the list with 72 points, behind Andrei Svechnikov (88 points) and Brady Tkachuk (99 points).
Juraj Slafkovsky is bottom of the list with 32 points.
Matthew Boldy (59 points), Lucas Raymond (52 points) and Matias Maccelli (48 points) are the other players who appear in this ranking.
Caufield, 22, had 36 points, including 26 goals, in just 46 games last season and became the Canadiens’ top scorer – tied with Nick Suzuki – despite missing nearly half the calendar.
For his part, Slafkovsky had a rather quiet season as a rookie, contenting himself with 10 points, including four goals, in 39 games. The 1.80m tall, 110kg striker, who was selected in the first round of the 2022 auction, is expected to take on greater responsibilities next season.
