Retiring a special player’s jersey after his retirement is an old tradition that has continued over the years in all major sports in North America.
In the NHL, the Montreal Canadiens don’t give up their place when it comes to jersey retirements, while several greats have worn the blue, white and red jerseys over the years.
But how does the team compare to the other organizations in the league?

This puts the Canadian team in second place overall, just behind the Toronto Maple Leafs, in terms of the number of jerseys retired in their history.
Note that number 99 of Wayne Gretzky was removed by the league in all organizations.
