The Montreal Canadiens announced Tuesday afternoon that they have traded defenseman Logan Mailloux to the Laval Rocket. The 20-year-old defenseman will join the American League team on Wednesday.
Habs first round pick in 2021 (31e overall) Mailloux is preparing for his debut in the professional ranks.
At his first training camp with CH, he stood out for his obvious offensive qualities. Head coach Martin St-Louis also said of him at the beginning of the week that he was one of the players “capable of managing a numerical advantage”. However, there is general agreement that with these assets will come increased defense responsibilities in the future. It is also this aspect of his game that Mailloux wanted to improve on Monday, a few hours before the duel against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was his last before being axed.
He didn’t record a point in three preseason games, but spent an average of 20 minutes on the ice per game, evidence that the organization wanted to give him a chance to shine.
Following Mailloux’s departure to Laval, the Canadian now has nine healthy defensemen in his lineup. At least one of them will be cut by next week.
