The Government of Canada recognizes that supporting Canadians in adopting healthy lifestyle habits is also an investment in creating healthy communities and a healthy country.
The Honourable Carla Qualtrough, Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, and the Honourable Mark Holland, Minister of Health, today announced that seven organizations will receive more than $9 million in funding under the Fund for the Health of Canadians and Communities to advance projects that will encourage the adoption of healthy lifestyle habits by Canadians, particularly those who are victims of health inequities. The organizations are: 8 80 Cities, Green Communities Canada, National Capital Region Equitable Recreation Network, Let’s Play Outside Canada, Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation, Sustainable Calgary Society and Unity Health Toronto.
Physical activity is important for preventing chronic diseases and improving overall physical and mental health. It helps people live longer, fuller, more productive and happier lives.
These organizations all share the common goal of creating and promoting programs and infrastructure aimed at promoting physical activity and providing community members with opportunities to participate in physical activity where they live, work and play.
