The brains of the CH development in search of the secret formula of hockey IQ

Montreal Canadiens director of hockey development, Adam Nicholas, embarked on an important mission this summer: to quantify a hockey player’s intelligence quotient.

This famous “Hockey IQ” is constantly used by recruiters to assess a player’s clarity on the ice and the accuracy of their scores. However, this assessment is mostly arbitrary and not scientific; it is based on the intuition of the respective expert.

Nicholas wanted to deepen the reflection.

“I was interested in how players get passes. This reveals a lot about their movements and where on the ice the puck is supposed to succeed. I noticed various details, but I think the most important thing is to teach our players how to recognize space on the field so that they can place the puck in favorable places.”

We can expect Lane Hutson to do very well on this Hockey IQ in Nicholas Sauce rating.

“The way he moves puts him in a very select category. “His timing, his vivacity, his agility…this boy has elite-level skills,” Nicholas boasted.
