Sorel-Tracy, May 17, 2023 – The 16th Quebec Olympiad in Commerce and Technology broadcast across Quebec from the Center de Expositions. On May 11th and 12th, 2023, 252 participants from 93 vocational training centers and CEGEPs took up the challenge of the Olympiades québécoises in front of more than 6,000 school visitors.
110 medalists and 252 success stories
At the end of the competition, 110 participants in 35 professions won a gold, silver or bronze medal. In the fields of hairdressing, mechanical engineering, welding assembly, computer graphics or even industrial design, there are 252 success stories that deserve career paths and incredible energy for tomorrow’s Quebec. “Congratulations to Skills Quebec for organizing the 16th edition of the Quebec Trades and Technology Olympiads. It is a satisfied Deputy Director who informs us of the great success of her team: Joanie Boutin won the silver medal in welding assembly, Elise St-Jacques the silver medal in health, assistance and care, Catherine Findlay the gold medal in hairdressing as well as the prestigious Best of Quebec Award and Damien De La Bruère Terreault the Medallion for Excellence in Editing. “It’s such an enriching experience for the students, bonds are formed, friendships are formed and there is a lot of pride in the eyes of the participants. I’m really proud of my team, each of the students was very professional and there was a great synergy within the group. This is a great achievement for the Sorel-Tracy Vocational and Adult Education Centers! says Andréanne Lortie, deputy head of vocational training.

The Meilleur du Québec award rewards performance with the highest score in all disciplines. On the occasion of the 16th edition, the RBC Foundation presented the award to Catherine Findlay, Hairdressing Finalist, from Sorel-Tracy Vocational and Adult Education Centres. A first for Montérégie and also a first in hairdressing! Proof that persistence is the key to success!
Team Quebec: Heading to the Canadian Olympiads
The names of the Team Quebec participants are known: A delegation of 43 Quebecers will fly to Winnipeg to represent us at the Canadian Olympiad of Trades and Technologies on May 26th and 27th. They will compete against Canada’s best to earn a place at WorldSkills in Lyon in 2024.
