The Toronto Argonauts became the first Canadian Football League (CFL) East team to secure a playoff spot by beating the Ottawa Redblacks 45-15 at TD Place on Saturday.
The Queen City team (8-5) joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and BC Lions as one of the teams to snag a ticket to the Fall Ball.
The “Argos” won the battle for Ontario by dominating the Ottawa team (3-10) on all points. Quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson had three passing majors and 245 passing yards.
On the other hand, Pivots Caleb Evans and Nick Arbuckle had a nightmarish evening. While the latter was the victim of two steals in 37 passing attempts, meanwhile Evans committed three interceptions in just 17 shots. Additionally, two of those steals resulted in a touchdown when Maurice Carnell and Chris Edwards ended their 35-yard and 89-yard streaks, respectively, in the end zone after catching the ball.
No points were scored in the first quarter. The Argonauts had their best moments in the second and fourth quarters, scoring 38 of their points.
The Rouge et Noir will have another major challenge next Friday as they attempt to tame the Lions in Vancouver. The Argonauts will take on the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium on Saturday.
