Tennis: Bad luck for Félix Auger-Aliassime

Quebec’s Félix Auger-Aliassime played a second game of the World Tennis League mixed preparation tournament in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday and this time he didn’t enjoy the win.

In a double duel, he lost alongside his Indian partner Sania Mirza, 24th WTA singles player, in three sets 5: 7, 6: 3 and 10: 7 against the pair of German Alexander Zverev and Kazakh Elana Rybakina. Originally, Quebecer Eugenie Bouchard was to form a kite-forming duo with “FAA”, but Mirza took her place.

The Auger-Aliassime team also includes the world’s No. 1 women’s racket, Poland’s Iga Swiatek, and Denmark’s Holger Rune. For their part, Zverev and Rybakina belong to the Hawks, whose other members are Dominic Thiem and Anett Kontaveit.

The competition, which ends Saturday, includes two other formations, the Eagles and the Falcons. In the Eagles camp, Canadian Bianca Andreescu joins those of Nick Kyrgios, Caroline Garcia and Rohan Bopanna. Novak Djokovic also plays for the Falcons.

The Kites had beaten the Eagles 35-27, with ‘FAA’ triumphing 7-5, 6-3 over Kyrgios. Friday he has an appointment with the “Djoker”.
