TORONTO – Inflation is encouraging more Canadian post-secondary students to stay home with their parents after completing post-secondary education than it did a decade ago, according to an RBC survey.
The survey, conducted online by Ipsos between June 29 and July 12, shows that 47% of respondents say they will be staying with their parents for the current school year, compared to 36% in 2013.
The RBC survey of 1,000 people aged 18-29 also shows that more students depend on their parents’ financial support, 43% compared to 29% 10 years ago.
Jason Storsley, senior vice president, day-to-day banking and customer growth at RBC, says that not only do students depend on their parents’ financial help, but they also get help in setting their financial goals.
According to the report, 45% of students expect to graduate with up to $20,000 in debt, up from 30% in 2013.
No margin of error can be attributed to the online survey.
