State Budget: The CAQ lacks vision and ambition

SCFP-Québec leaders are disappointed and regret that Minister Girard’s budget is off target. While the pandemic has shown us the importance of our public services and inflation has peaked in recent months, the CAQ is doing too little for public sector workers.

“The Legault government keeps saying it wants to bring people back to our hospitals and schools, but at every opportunity it refuses to take the steps that would make them a preferred employer. For several months, the purchasing power of health and education workers has been falling, so we hope that the government can make significant offers in the sums promised today,” said Frédéric Brisson, secretary general of the organization.

The same observation applies to the province’s communities, which have long been asking for greater financial assistance.

“Our cities are increasingly having to deal with tasks that the federal and state governments are shoveling into their backyards and the infrastructure needs are screaming. Unfortunately, the budgets do not follow. When it comes to public transport, the situation is alarming because this government lacks vision. We welcome the promised investments, but they are not enough,” added Patrick Gloutney, President of SCFP-Québec.

“Rather than offer a tax break that will have no impact on the majority of Quebec families, the Legault government should have been more ambitious and strengthened our public services,” he concluded.
