Some packages, gifts and Christmas cards sent in the last few days may not arrive at their destination in time for Christmas Eve. Bad weather conditions observed in several regions of Quebec and Canada are making work difficult for employees, Canada Post said.
Due to the winter storm warning issued by Environment Canada for virtually all regions, Canada Post wanted to inform customers that it has issued red and yellow service alerts for each province and territory.
At KRTB, however, the situation was under control by December 23. All packages were delivered in good condition.
CAUTION
A red alert means delivery is suspended, while a yellow alert means delivery is continuing but delays are expected.
“We will do our best to process and deliver mail today, but these activities may not be possible in some areas and may be delayed in others,” Canada Post said in a statement sent to media.
“While recovery efforts are underway to make deliveries on December 24th, they will depend on weather and road conditions where possible as we prioritize the safety of our employees. Regular delivery operations will resume on Wednesday 28 December.”
Although they are doing their best to make the delivery in these difficult weather conditions, employees – and others – face certain risks during the winter, the statement also reminds. “The safety of our employees is our top priority.”
To facilitate delivery operations, Canada Post is asking people to clear entry into their homes by clearing snow and ice from their sidewalks, stairways and driveways, and the area around their mailbox.
Here are some tips:
- Clear snow and ice from your sidewalks, driveway, and the area around your mailbox.
- De-ice stairs, driveways and mailboxes with sand or salt.
- Clean your stairs, banisters and mailboxes and keep them in good condition.
