Young Canadiens forward Juraj Slafkovsky, the first-ever pick in the 2022 draft, continues to make very encouraging progress for the Montreal organization.
After a difficult first season in which he had a seemingly error-filled game before being stopped by injury, the Slovakian finally began to show what kind of player he could be last November.
And since joining Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield at the helm of the team, Slafkovsky has been putting points on the board. The striker recently scored five goals in his last eight games.
“Very interesting things are happening with Juraj Slafkovsky,” commented our colleague Renaud Lavoie to “JiC” on Wednesday.
Referring to the recent progress the young man has made after working with “Dr. Shoot,” in this case Glen Tucker, a throwing specialist, Renaud then emphasized that the organization now knows that “when this kid works with the right people, good things happen,” opening the door to an even greater progression curve in the future .
Was Slafkovsky actually the pick taken at the top of the 2022 draft? Many people still have to wait to make a decision. The player selected third in the auction, American Logan Cooley (Arizona Coyotes), also appears to be highly regarded and, according to many, could collect more points than Slafkovsky over the course of his career.
Renaud doesn't hesitate. Slafkovsky is superior in many ways.
“I think it's not just the production, and I'll tell you something second. Today's date. It’s not even close.”
