Six Canadians in the main draw at Wimbledon

Quebecer Félix Auger-Aliassime will lead a contingent of six Canadians who will participate in the Wimbledon tournament.

Auger-Aliassime, the best-ranked Canadian in the individual and 17e The seeded player will begin the third major tournament of the season with a clash against Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis. Ontario’s Denis Shapovalov will face Chilean Nicolas Jarry (No. 19).

In the women’s category, Quebec’s Leylah Annie Fernandez (30e) will play her first match against the Italian Lucia Bronzetti. The Ontario players Bianca Andreescu and Marina Stakusic will also play in the main draw.

Andreescu will face Romanian Jaqueline Cristian, while 19-year-old Stakusic will make her Grand Slam debut against Czech Katerina Siniakova (27)e).

For Andreescu, it is the fourth tournament in a row after a ten-month break. She recently reached the third round at Roland Garros and the final in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.

The main draw for the singles matches begins on Monday at the All England Club.

In doubles, Ontario’s Gabriela Dabrowski and her partner, New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe, will face Mirra Andreeva and Anastasia Potapova in the first round. Fernandez and her partner, Japan’s Ena Shibahara, will play against China’s Xinyu Jiang and Hanyu Guo.

Dabrowski notably reached the women’s doubles final at Wimbledon in 2019. Earlier this year, she and Routliffe lost in the semifinals of the Australian Open.

In the men’s doubles, Shapovalov will team up with Kokkinakis. They will face the tandem consisting of Tunisian Skander Mansouri and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut.
