Seven Canadian women earn spots at the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open

Team Canada athletes will be among the 11 exempted players attending the 49, alongside amateur and professional golfers from many countriese Edition of the Canadian Women’s National Open Golf Championship

VANCOUVER (August 14, 2023) – Golf Canada, in association with title sponsor CPKC, today announced the names of 11 players who have been awarded a bye to play in the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open tournament, August 22-27 at Shaughnessy Golf and country club in Vancouver.

Alena Sharp of Hamilton, ON, tops the list of eight Canadians who earned a bye to the 2023 Championship draw. The two-time Olympian and longtime LPGA Tour member will finish her 18th placee Appeared at Canada’s National Women’s Open Golf Championship where she scored her best 4 of her careere place in 2016. Sharp, who earned her bye by winning the 2023 PGA Women’s Championship of Canada, is ranked 13the on the 2023 Epson Circuit points list for a season marked by a win at the Champions Fore Change Invitational Tournament and two other top 10 finals.

Also invited to the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open are two Team Canada pros – Brigitte Thibault of Rosemère, QC, and Sarah-Ève Rhéaume of Quebec City – who will be starting their fourth and second seasons at the National Open Championship, respectively. The group will be joined by five amateur golfers from Team Canada, led by Lauren Kim, 17, of Surrey, BC, who will compete in her first CPKC Women’s Open after earning her bye at the Canadian Masters Championship. To round out the list of byes to date, there will also be a trio of international talent on the event squad including 2023 British Amateur Championship winner Chiara Horder from Germany, rising amateur star from the United States Gianna Clemente and Australia’s Gabriella Ruffels , which is currently number one on the Epson Circuit’s 2023 Money Makers list.

The final three passes for the 2023 CPKC Women’s Open have yet to be issued. In addition, four more places will be awarded in the competition draw at the qualifying event on Monday, August 21 at the neighboring Point Gray Golf & Country Club in Vancouver.

This group will join two Canadian LPGA Tour players in Shaughnessy: 13-time LPGA Tour winner Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, ON and Maddie Szeryk of London, ON.
