For the second straight year, Ottawa Senators players were cautious when expressing their expectations during the organization’s annual golf tournament.

Last year, during the 2022 edition of the event before training camp, the vast majority of ‘Sens’ hockey players said not to put too much pressure on themselves. The Ottawa club finished its season in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with a record of 39-35-8. The Sens missed the playoffs by six points.

This Tuesday, the team leaders decided on the formula “Let’s take it one day at a time.”

“We know what we want to be the standard, but we’re going to keep it to ourselves,” captain Brady Tkachuk said at a news conference.

“If you reveal your goals, it can become a distraction. We believe in each other. We’re going to take it day by day and do our best every day.”

“There is no number or position in the rankings that we have identified,” he stressed.

It was the same story with Claude Giroux.

“We must not project too much into the future. It’s important to go through one game at a time. This prevents us from wasting energy by thinking too much,” said the veteran, who is in his second season with the Senators.

The “Sens”, which have been rebuilding for several years, have not been in the playoffs since they took part in the association finals in spring 2017.
