Season over for Cole Caufield

The team released the update Saturday morning ahead of practice for tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs and said Caufield had been working through the injury for quite some time.

Details on how long his recovery will take are yet to be announced, but it’s already clear that we won’t see the No. 22 in action again this season.

Author of 26 goals and 10 assists in 46 games since the start of the season, Caufield, who has just celebrated his 22nd birthday, appeared to be heading for a production of 40 goals or more.

Veteran defender David Savard has admitted the loss of Caufield is a blow to the team.

It’s a great loss for us, that’s for sure. I don’t know what started his injury. Big loss for us on the ice and in space. It’s not the news we wanted to hear, but for the sake of his career he shouldn’t take any long-term risks.

Striker Josh Anderson said he could speak to Caufield ahead of morning practice and the youngster is optimistic.

He is being cared for by one of the best surgeons there is. I told her everything would be finesaid Anderson, who himself underwent surgery for a similar injury on his left shoulder.
